Approach to Mentorship
Research is best when it is collaborative, and I couldn’t do any of my research without the amazing RAs who have worked with me throughout the years. As a mentor, I seek to show the students who work with me what the research world is like, while providing a warm and supportive environment where students feel comfortable to ask any questions they might have about what it means to pursue a PhD and what the field of psychology is like in general. In addition to working alongside these students on my own research projects, I encourage them to use existing data in the lab to conduct independent research projects. I also make it a point to teach students tangible research skills, such as how to program surveys in Qualtrics, as well as countless lessons on statistics (e.g., regression, multilevel modeling, and bayesian statistics).
